Dedicated fan-coil systems chosen for new Ramada hotel in London
Air conditioning designed for hotel requirements has been supplied by Ability Projects for 150 bedrooms in the Ramada Encore London West hotel.
Aurora II fan-coil systems specially designed for hotels by Ability Projects provide air conditioning for the new Ramada Encore London West Hotel. They serve 150 bedrooms and are installed in bulkheads above room doors. This air-conditioning system is the result of a detailed study of performance, installation and commissioning requirements of air conditioning for modern hotels. It was carried out by Ability Projects, Siemens Building Technologies and Tandy Engineering Services. The study established that air conditioning for hotel bedrooms is characterised by short heating and cooling cycles, which make the capabilities of 4-pipe fan-coil systems largely redundant. The Aurora II system is based on a control-integrated, 2-pipe changeover fan-coil unit fitted with electric heating and supplied with chilled water or LPHW via a heat-pump chiller on a seasonal basis as necessary. A sensor on the side of a fan-coil unit senses water temperature and closes or opens the flow valve to activate heating or cooling. A Siemens room-temperature controller with LCD monitors adjusts room temperatures during heating and cooling cycles, initiates automatic changeover and switches the electric heater and 3-speed fan. The fan-coil units for this project are just 755 mm long, 516 mm wide and 235 mm deep. They provide up to 1.5 kW of cooling. Noise levels by day are NR30 and NR25 overnight. Installation features include a control enclosure with access from below and rear-facing pipe connections. Discharge plenums have spigots sized to connect direct to the discharge grilles into the bedrooms.
