Air conditioning for sophisticated facilities and equipment in this veterinary centre is provided by a chilled-water system with a Tetris chiller from Walter Meier (Climate UK).

Critical environmental conditions in a 3000 m2 veterinary hospital in Shirley, West Midlands, are maintained with the help of a Blue Box Tetris chiller supplied by Walter Meier (Climate UK). The purpose-built Willows Veterinary Centre & Referral Service has 22 vets and 67 other staff. Its facilities include six operating theatres and extensive diagnostic equipment, including MRI and CT scanners.

In many of these areas, it is essential to maintain design temperatures — for the health of patients and sensitive equipment, as well as for the comfort of visitors and staff.

Practice manager Jenny Tubb explains, ‘Having air conditioning gives you the flexibility to look after the wellbeing of people upstairs and animals downstairs. Animals that are anaesthetised cannot control their own body temperature, so it is essential that the ambient temperature is right.’

The chiller supplies chilled water to a fan-coil system and air-handling unit serving the main hospital area and operating theatres.

The chiller has multiple scroll compressors, so it can respond efficiently to variable cooling loads, reducing electrical consumption by up to 40% compared to traditional semi-hermetic compressors.

Software developed specially for the Tetris range enables fine control to be achieved for each chiller circuit, exploiting the most favourable condensation and evaporation temperatures.

The chiller was selected by John Watson Services.
