Hilton Building Services helps breed more guide dogs for the blind

Hilton Building Services, contractor

Hilton Building Services is to install M&E and public-health services for the Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre in Warwickshire. It will be next to the existing breeding centre and provide facilities to increase the number of puppies bred from 1100 to 1550 a year. The project is due for completion in Summer 2011.

Hiltons will be responsible for installing air-conditioning, ventilation and heating systems. Green energy solutions will include maximising natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, heat recovery and biomass boilers.

Stephen Kirk, Guide Dogs director of operations, said, ‘As we provide people with a guide dog for life, and they could have eight dogs in their lifetime, we need to increase the 1100 dogs a year we breed to around 1550. The current facilities are outdated, and we do not have enough capacity for expansion. The new centre will allow us to meet our challenging 2010-to-2020 strategy aim to increase our dog partnerships substantially.’
