Buderus solar system heats indoor swimming pool

Buderus solar system
Most of the heat for this indoor swimming pool at Oxford Brookes University is now provided by Buderus solar panels.
40 m2 of solar-thermal panels now heat the 25 m swimming pool at Oxford Brookes University for most of the year. Supplementary heat from the existing boiler is called on for only a limited number of dull winter days. Solar Solutions Direct installed 18 Buderus solar panels, the first time the company has used them. Buderus also helped design the system and advise on grant availability — as well as providing a detailed analysis of performance, carbon footprint and payback period, which is estimated at five years. The installation team was given special training at the Buderus training centre. The pool is kept at 29°C, and the collector specification was base on the T-Sol database of weather and temperature conditions in the Oxford area over the last 10 years. External weather sensors are part of the controls package.
