Xpelair’s Xcell 150U mechanical ventilation unit with heat recovery is recognised by EC Appendix Q and joins the company’s recently launched CarbonLite range of low-energy and long-life ventilation products. These units can extract air from kitchens and bathrooms and distribute recovered heat to other rooms. These new units are rated at 150 m3/h of air at 150 PA. They can be installed vertically on a wall, in an airing cupboard or utility room. They are only 260 mm deep, so they can also be fitted to a ceiling or in a loft space. Test data shows that the counterflow heat exchanger achieves 88% efficiency (hence Appendix Q). There are standard G4 filters for both airflows, with a port to take an optional G6 pollen filter. Other features include automatic thermostatically controlled summer bypass and winter defrost. Constant-volume fans maintain airflow throughout the filter life. An indicator shows when filters need attention. Units can be commissioned in 1% steps independently in both directions, and there is 3-speed control.
