Oventrop scores at Highbury Stadium

The plant room and distribution pipework that comprise the district-heating system in the redevelopment of the old Highbury Stadium of Arsenal FC use Oventrop valves exclusively.
The redevelopment of the old Highbury Stadium of Arsenal FC to create over 700 apartments with a two acre central landscaped garden will use Oventrop valves in all the plant rooms and distribution pipework that comprise the district-heating scheme. Bailey, mechanical-engineering contractor for the entire project, selected Oventrop valves on previous experience of quality and competitive costs. Bailey is currently working on the south-block apartments, in the basement of which is the main plant room housing a heat and power generator producing electricity for all external lighting and power needs. There are also six boilers and a solar heating system providing heat for massive thermal stores in each of the four apartment blocks (north, east, south and west). Oventrop Hydromat DP differential-pressure regulators, which function without the need for auxiliary power, are used in all risers in the apartment blocks to maintain the desired constant differential pressure and to simplify and facilitate commissioning during the phased handovers. Cold-water distribution to each apartment is controlled by Oventrop pressure-reducing valves. The thermal stores feed each apartment via an independent cased heat exchanger for underfloor heating and another unit for domestic hot water. Thermal stores eliminate the need to fire up boilers to counteract a small drop in temperature in the apartments. The boilers only operate when the store temperature has fallen to a predetermined level. Consulting engineer for the project, for which there are numerous phased handovers, is Hoare Lea of Birmingham.
