Two ground-source heat pumps provide heating and hot water for a development of 12 apartments and two penthouses on the Clipper Cove development at Praa Sands on the south coast of Cornwall. The minimum-impact design of this development includes extensive use of timber in the 3-storey construction with high levels of insulation provided by recycled newsprint in the walls and help and cotton in the roof. The heat pumps are served by two boreholes sunk deep into the Cornish granite. The energy used by each apartment is metered for billing purposes.
