VRF air conditioning provides heating and cooling for major office refurbishment

VRF
A new lease of life has been given to this 1980s office building in Newbury with the installation of four Toshiba VRF systems to provide both heating and cooling.
Heating costs have been cut and the benefits of air conditioning brought to a large 1300 m2 office building in Newbury by the installation of four large Toshiba VRF systems. The refurbished space in Leat House was not preciously air conditioned, having been designed in the late 1980s with a perimeter wet heating system. It was removed by contractor Air Concepts, and a comprehensive environmental control system was designed to cope with the high solar gain in this extensively glazed building. The design uses Toshiba Super Heat Recovery Modules to make up four large air-conditioning systems with a total capacity of 125 kW and able to supply both heating and cooling. The building is zoned for letting to four potential tenants, with separate control systems enabling each tenant to manage their own energy budget and environment. A heat-recovery ventilation system has also been installed by Air Concepts. It uses the ceiling space as a return-air plenum.
