A scheme to bring the benefits of micro-CHP to a wider market has been devised by EC Power.

EC Power moves to boost take-up of small-scale CHP A scheme to stimulate the installation of small-scale CHP (under 20 kW of electricity) has been devised by EC Power. It provides customers with low-carbon electricity and heating at a discounted price — and a free micro-CHP system. Customers who take up on 10-year x-ergy contract will have no capital outlay, and finance will be provided by Co-operative Bank as part of its commitment to environmental and ethical issues. At the end of the contract, customers keep their CHP system, free of charge. Ashley Grist, managing director of EC Power, says, ‘The x-ergy tariff is directly linked to the price of gas, and the gas price is far more stable than that of electricity.’ EC Power is part of the Statoil Group, which delivers 10% of gas imports into the UK — putting the company in a strong position to accurately monitor and forecast trends in the gas market.
