London HEVAR 2004

The popular London HEVAR show is back at Chelsea Football Club on 6 and 7 October — and is well worth a visit.Small in area but large in its scope — that’s the very popular London HEVAR show, which this year is again at Chelsea Football Club on 6 and 7 October. Over 80 exhibitors will be participating at the event, and there is a comprehensive selection of free technical seminars with CPD accreditation. The 2003 event set new attendance records, and the organisers tell us that this year’s show looks set to continue that trend. Entry to the show is free, and a free buffet lunch is also provided. Visitors can register in advance at www.hevar.co.uk Even at this relatively early stage, a number of exhibitors have revealed at least outline information of significant new launches. To enable readers to obtain more information, the Modern Building Services website www.modbs.co.uk has links to the relevant websites and other contact information. You can also use our website to become a registered reader. Broag tells us that an important new advance in commercial-boiler design will be launched. It is expected to make a major impact on the relevant sectors of the commercial-boiler market. The company will also feature examples of its Quinta ranges of wall-hung and floor-standing commercial condensing boilers. Eaton-Williams is at the show for the third year running and will be focusing on its key brands Edenaire, Qualitair and Cubit/Vapac — including the recently launched Moducel Flexaire LKP range of air-handling units. This high-specification range addresses the need for reduced maintenance and total-life costs. Colman will be represented by its range of air-distribution grilles, diffusers and louvres, together with Moducel fan-coil and air-handling products. Together they enable Eaton-Williams to offer a complete portfolio of air-handling and distribution products and services. Among a wide range of new products from Stokvis will be wall-mounted Econoflame R30 gas-fired boilers for commercial and industrial applications and Econoplate plate heat exchangers. Also spotlighted will be Econostor gas/oil-fired storage water heaters and Economatic steel shell boilers with outputs up to 3450 kW. Building-controls specialist Trend will feature its IQ3xcite system. It is based on a controller platform that can communicate via Ethernet, facilitating integration with IT networks. A web server in the controller allows monitoring and adjustment via a standard browser. Also on show will be the new IQView and 916 mobile display. The first is a major advance in low-cost BMS user interfaces and meets the needs of both controls engineers and the less technically minded. The 916 is designed ot run on a hand-held PDA and provides an inexpensive and convenient means of remotely accessing systems. Viessmann’s key exhibit will be its high-efficiency wall-mounted Vitodens 300 condensing boiler. Its Matrix burner contributes to a 97% efficiency and flue-gas emissions lower than any European requirements. Outputs are up to 356 kW. Stainless steel is used throughout the flueway construction for maximum resistance to corrosion. Satchwell’s MicroNet building-management system enables local authorities and other organisations to monitor and control their heating, ventilation and air conditioning effectively — saving energy and cost. There is a wide choice of user interfaces, including the VisiView web-based graphical interface to provide access on the Internet. Also featured will be Satchwell and Drayton intelligent controllers and associated products for organisations to make the most of their BMS investments. Gilberts, which designs and makes all types of air-distribution grilles, diffusers, louvres, smoke/fire dampers and VAV terminals, will display features of some of its latest product innovations. They include a swirl-effect multi-nozzle diffuser design, new smoke/fire damper range and the GSL series of high-style slot diffusers — now available in curved segments. All have been designed to improve performance and reduce costs. There will also be a rolling demonstration of the company’s work in computational fluid dynamics. The R300 Series high-efficiency condensing Supa-Flo water heater from Andrews Water Heaters and the R300 series condensing Supa-Heat boiler are identical in appearance and on the Energy Technology List. Their rapid-response burner achieves a net efficiency of 104%. Outputs are from 70 to 275 kW and noise levels very low at 50 dB(A). Footprints range from 0.5 m2 to 0.75 m2. The Deltavent from A1 Bridge Flue Systems will be among a selection of flue and chimney products on show. This twin-wall stainless-steel prefabricated exhaust or duct system is available with a 25 mm insulating gap, 50 mm of mineral-wool insulation or 75 and 100 mm annulus. They have been successfully tested for stability and integrity during a 4-hour fire test at the Loss Prevention Laboratories. Winterwarm will launch the XR gas-fired unit heater that can work in the horizontal or vertical position. An intelligent control system modulates the heat output and monitors fan speed. When the required temperature is reached, the fan continues running to prevent stratification. Geminox will launch its THI 5-25DC gas-fired condensing boiler. It is designed for the growing underfloor heating market. Reznor will show its new USDB high-efficiency gas-fired unit heater. It is designed for ducted applications and has a low profile for false-ceiling applications. Its thermal efficiency is over 92%, and it will soon be listed on the Energy Technology List. This heater has a direct-drive centrifugal fan and a 3-speed motor. The SmartPac range of packaged controls from York Controls is pre-engineered with proven software to reduce site time and integration of controls fitted to M&E services. These controllers can be fitted to York International’s air-handling units, fan-coils units and chillers and delivered to site ready for final commissioning — providing a one-stop shop that overcomes the complicated issues surrounding the integration of plant-room equipment. Strebel will present a wall-hung condensing boiler . The S–CB range has an output of up to 180 kW per unit. To go to the websites of companies mentioned, click the links below

  • Strebel Getting there The nearest Underground station to Chelsea Village is Fulham Broadway. Turn left out of the station and walk along Fulham Road for about 400 m. Chelsea Village is on the left. Travelling by road, Exit the M25 at junction 15 and take the M4 towards London. Stay on the M4 (which becomes the A4), over the Hammersmith flyover and continue through two sets of traffic lights. Take the filter right down Earls Court Road. Drive over the first set of traffic lights, then turn right at the second set and down Fulham Road (A304). Follow the road for roughly 600 m. You should then see the entrance to Chelsea Village on your right. The car park is underground and costs £15 for the day. There are limited spaces available.
