Unconventional underfloor heating cuts building schedule

project
Nearly 2500 m2 of underfloor heating has been installed at Young Options College in Shifnal, Shropshire. Unusually, the tubing was installed by fixing it directly to the reinforcing mesh within the slab by Thermo-floor rather than installing onto the slab and then covering it with a screed. This approach brought forward the entire building schedule and significantly reduced overall installation costs as it eliminated the need for additional insulation and a screed over the slab. 10 self-regulating manifolds were sited at predetermined locations around the building to service the heating of the entire school. These manifolds range from six to 18 ways, depending on the flow required for reach area.
