Unobtrusive air conditioning for Grade 2 listed building

Hotel
It took just a week to install air conditioning for six suites of luxury rooms in Dunkerley’s, a popular Grade 2 listed hotel and restaurant in Deal, using Toshiba’s R410A digital Inverter Split System. The equipment was installed by A1 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning to improve comfort in this hotel, which is sited on an exposed corner, so traffic noise precludes the opening of windows. It faces the Sun for much of the day and catches the wind in winter. Heat-pump air conditioning is providing an ideal solution and demonstrating the potential for providing air conditioning for older and historically significant buildings. The use of gravity drainage for condensate was regarded as important to prevent unwanted noises during the night. The hotel staff remark that the pipework is so neatly boxed in that they do not realise that anything is there. The latest fire regulations required extra work, including two layers of plasterboard for elements of the installation, recoving ceilings and using fire-proof foam where appropriate. The work was completed with residents still in the hotel.
