Grundfos supports delivery of vital water during Italy’s worst drought

Grundfos pumps has assisted with delivery of containerised water to drought-striken Italy, with its packaged booster sets.

The summer of 2017 will be remembered very differently depending where in Europe you experienced it. Here in northern Europe we saw lots of rain, but parts of Italy saw temperatures soar, creating its worst drought in 60 years and resulting in dwindling fresh water supplies.

The prolonged heatwave and resulting severe drought pushed already limited fresh water supplies to their limits, bringing the real threat of water rationing. Rome and parts of Southern Italy were particularly badly affected and public authorities struggled to supply water, especially to any of the higher-positioned towns and villages. The BBC reported that 11 of Italy’s 20 regions were on the verge of asking for a state of emergency to be declared because of water shortages.

It was at this point that Grundfos was asked to assist. Following consultation with various parties, Grundfos worked quickly to specify and supply several packaged booster sets that were able to support the distribution of water that was brought in by container.

Grundfos notes that here in the UK, the demand for pressure boosting systems has increased dramatically in recent years, as has the engineered sophistication of packaged booster sets. Today, these units are widely supplied to support applications involving water supply, irrigation systems, water treatments systems as well as in building services.
