CIS solar tower goes live

Prime Minister Tony Blair has switched on the first stage of the CIS ‘solar tower’ project in Manchester. The south side of the 122 m-high building went live as Mr Blair pressed the switch feeding electricity into the national grid. One all 7000 photo-voltaic panels are in place as part of the recladding of this Grade 2 listed building, it is expected that 180 MWh of renewable electricity will be generated each year.

New procurement rules for NHS suppliers

New procurement rules mean NHS suppliers will need to demonstrate their green credentials so the NHS can achieve its target of becoming net zero for directly-controlled emissions by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction in its carbon emissions between 2028 to 2032.
