Hundreds of en-suite shower pods in a 22-storey block of student accommodate in Leicester are served by Marley Plumbing & Drainage’s soil and waste system, including the recently redesigned 8-way collar boss. The Summit tower block and an adjoining 4-storey podium are being built by main contractor Tolent Construction as a design-and-build project for developer Megaclose (Leicester) Ltd.

Mechanical-services specialist H. Malone & Sons has used Marley products on other projects and invited solutions for the special requirements of this project.

Marley’s technical manager Neil Carter explains, ‘The space available in the main service riser behind the bathroom pods is very tight, and we therefore provided the contractor with detailed drawings indicating how the connections could be made — as well as helping them with the design and material schedule. After the pods had been craned into position, the toilet and other waste pipes are left protruding into the riser and required connecting to the stacks. The revamped Marley collar boss was ideal for this situation because it offers such flexibility.’

The 8-way soil manifold has four top and side entries, allowing for multiple inlets. It protrudes just 70 mm above the floor slab. The 530 mm spigot tail fits directly through the slab to connect to a push-fit socket below.
