CIBSE Certification recognises IoR membership for accreditation as air-conditioning inspector

Membership of the Institute of Refrigeration is now recognised as equivalent to CIBSE membership for entry onto the accreditation scheme of CIBSE Certification for air-conditioning assessors for both complex and simple systems. Membership will be acknowledged at member and fellow level.

Since January 2009, air-conditioning systems with a cooling capacity of 250 kW or more must have been inspected. Despite this obligation under the Energy Performance in Buildings Regulations, many building users and facilities managers have failed to act on their responsibilities, according to CIBSE. In addition, all systems over 12 kW output must be inspected by January 2011.

The directive requires all these systems to be inspected by a competent and accredited person belonging to a scheme approved by CLG, such as that operated by CIBSE Certification. CIBSE also accredits inspectors to undertake these inspection in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
