Chloride ensures continuous power for UK Grid data centre

Chloride
Uninterruptible power protection for this new UK Grid data centre in Manchester is provided by Chloride systems.
UK Grid has awarded Chloride an ongoing contract to provide critical power protection at its new co-location data centre in Manchester. The facility at No. 1 Synergy House is a Tier II business-class data centre with a current capacity for 300 racks. It alleviates the shortage of such facilities in the north of England. Working with UK Grid engineers, the Chloride project-management team designed a flexible and reliable UPS that will evolve in line with business requirements. The initial phase of this N+1 installation is provided by a 500 VA generator and three 100 kVA 80-NET UPS for the main data hall and a main switchboard for auto generator change of the mains power. The 80-NET UPS chosen has a power-conversion efficiency of up to 100%, said to represent a one-third reduction on energy losses compared with UPS systems from other manufacturers. The UPS systems provide N+1 uninterruptible power with a 10 minute autonomy for protection against spikes an power interruption. The backup generators can take the full load of the building in the event of complete mains failure. UK Grid has also taken advantage of Chloride’s LIFE.net remote monitoring and diagnostics service, which keeps the systems under continuous surveillance and reports their operational status to Chloride’s constantly manned service centre. Real-time awareness and performance monitoring of Over a hundred operational parameters are monitored, so that any anomalies are immediately identified and remedial action triggered. LIFE.net means that Chloride effectively takes responsibility for the health of the UPS.
