Evans: Support cultural change on safety

BSRIA responded to the interim report of Dame Judith Hackitt into the Building Regulations and Fire Safety, calling on its members to support the findings.

BSRIA chief executive, Julia Evans, says: “BSRIA gives full and unqualified support to this interim report and sees this as the time to make recommendations as a catalyst for change and a change in culture. The work of the review to date has found that the current regulatory system for ensuring fire safety in high-rise and complex buildings is not fit for purpose.”

The Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety is being led by Dame Judith Hackitt. Its purpose is to make recommendations that will ensure we have a sufficiently robust regulatory system for the future. It is also examining the building and fire safety regulatory system, with a focus on high-rise residential buildings.

BSRIA has been working with several stakeholders to scrutinise the culture change necessary and the recommendations crucial for behavioural change. It is supporting work on skills, planning, regulations and design.
