The sky’s the limit for Morley-IAS fire systems

Morley-IAS, fire system, fire detection, fire alarm

New facilities for Project Airseeker at RAF Waddington, which provides real-time surveillance and analysis to personnel in the air and on the ground, includes two separate fire-detection systems. They were specified and configured by TecservUK using products from Morley-IAS by Honeywell.

The new facilities were provided by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and include a fully reconfigured maintenance and storage hangar alongside a newly constructed annex to house administrative and training functions and provide space for accommodation.

The maintenance hangar is designed to service and maintain the Boeing RC-135V/W aircraft, and safety in this high-tech environment is vital. In any environment with flammable materials, a fire detection and evacuation system is vital to keep people, property and assets safe.

Both systems were based around the Morley-IAS ZX2Se intelligent analogue addressable control panel. It supports a total of five industry leading protocols, allowing fire-detection devices to be independently selected based on performance or aesthetic appeal. Information on the location of fires, faults and system status can be easily displayed or printed in multiple locations, while integration with voice evacuation systems, paging systems and third-party control systems is supported through a range of peripheral interface units. These features made it well suited for Project Airseeker.

The hangar is served by a Honeywell FAAST LT aspirating smoke-detection system covering an area over 15 m high. The system can be serviced at ground level.

As well as a wide range of call points, communication modules, isolators and enclosures, optical smoke detectors were use in both locations. They use the light-scatter principle and are ideal for applications where slow-burning or smouldering fires are possible. Combined with ultra-violet/infra-red flame detectors and a video smoke-detection system, every possible eventuality has been covered.
