Adcock wins contract to replace hospital AHUs

A £700 000 contract to replace the air-handling units at Southend University NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded to Adcock Refrigeration & Air Conditioning. The new equipment will serve the specialist eye clinic, pathology department, minor operations, mortuary and neurology department.

The units comply with HTM-03-01 and are being made by Aircraft. They are designed specifically for the ventilation of hospitals and healthcare premises to maintain a flow of fresh, sterile air.

The contract includes the installation of Mitsubishi Electric inverter condensers and Trend control systems, ductwork and LPHW. Mains electrical works and the replacement of operating-theatre doors are included in the associated building works.

David Cowling, senior project manager at Southend Hospital, said, ‘As a long-term service provider to the hospital [over 20 years], Adcock has a thorough knowledge of the site and its equipment locations. This knowledge, combined with a competitive bid, led to them being awarded the contract for this important work.
