Buteline helps make up time on delayed housing project

Enjoying the benefits of the speed with which the Buteline plumbing system can be installed is Mick Grainger of C. Watkins Plumbing.

Faced with the plumbing aspect of a development of 157 apartments being some 40 units behind schedule when a contractor withdrew from the project, C. Watkins Plumbing rapidly made up time using the Buteline pressfitting polybutene system. Brad Harding, managing director, said, ‘We used Buteline for the first time here and rapidly made up time, getting ahead of schedule.

‘It was absolutely essential that we didn’t cut corners or have problems after installation. Obviously we didn’t want to incur penalties or have to fix leaks later. It’s all about risk management. Buteline has actually helped to eliminate some of the risk.’

The Buteline system comprises coils or straight lengths of polybutene pipes, a range of specially designed fittings and a choice of clamping tools — one of which can be operated with one hand.

This project, Bell Green in Sydenham, south London, mainly required 16 and 22 mm pipe, although Buteline also comes in 10 and 28 mm sizes.

For this project, fittings that enabled Buteline pipes to be connected to copper manifolds were used.

Although relatively new to the UK, the Buteline system has a 30-year track record.
