Voltage optimisers reduce electricity use at Westminster Abbey
Two voltage power optimisation units installed in London’s Westminster Abbey are reducing electricity bills by over 12%, amounting to about £8400 a year and over 50 t a year lower CO2 emissions. Supplied by powerPerfector, the units were delivered in parts for manoeuvring down 14 stairs that are only 70 cm wide and reassembled. The customised enclosure is 6 cm smaller than standard to fit underneath existing trunking.
The units also provide power-conditioning benefits by reducing harmonic distortion, transients and imbalances between the three phases.
Jim Vincent, clerk of works at the abbey, says, ‘The savings we were guaranteed have been independently assessed and found to have been exceeded. The performance guarantee meant no risk on our part, and I would recommend the system to anyone.’
