Broag-Gilles biomass boiler featured by BBC programme

Broag, Gilles, Remeha, biomass boiler
Star of the BBC ‘Countryfile’ programme — a 1200 kW biomass boiler.

A Broag-Gilles biomass has been featured in the BBC television programme ‘Countryfile’ as part of a report on how burning wood fuel can help combat the pace of climate change. The 1200 kW at West Dean in West Sussex burns fuel from sustainably managed woodlands on the West Dean Estate to heat West Dean College, greenhouses, nine houses, the village church and several other outlying buildings.

The cost of buying and installing the boiler was about £280 000 but saves the college about £125 000 a year compared with oil-fired heating.

The college has run 465 and 770 kW biomass boilers since 1981. The smaller boiler has been replaced with the 1200 kW unit and the larger one kept as back-up.
