Wetherspoon’s pub is No. 1 for energy efficiency

Contributing to the energy-efficiency credentials of this Wetherspoon’s pub is the design and installation of underfloor heating by Thermo-Floor.

Underfloor heating has been installed in the flagship green pub of JD Wetherspoon, ‘The Kettleby Cross’ in Leicestershire, as part of an overall strategy to reduce energy consumption. Thermo-Floor designed and installed the system.

Neil Evans, general manager of Thermo-floor, explains, ‘We were selected by DP Consulting, the mechanical consultants responsible for the projects. JD Wetherspoon was looking for sustainable energy solutions throughout the whole building with the aim of using 50% less energy than a similar sized Wetherspoon’s pub. The aim was not only to generate energy from the newly installed wind turbine but also to save it by installing modern methods of construction such as underfloor heating, solar panels and sun pipes.

‘Allowing for savings of up to 25% on heating costs compared with traditional central-heating systems, underfloor heating and cooling solutions are becoming increasingly popular. ‘
