National Portrait Gallery draws on standby-power resources of Powercall
Emergency-generator cover within the hour, 24 hours a day, will be provided to the National Portrait Gallery in London under a contract with Powercall UK. It provides a cost-effective guarantee to prolonged power cuts.
Although the gallery has several uninterruptible power supplies installed, chief engineer Alan Tyrell was conscious that they would only support essential equipment for up to four hours.
He explains, ‘Our UPS systems are our first line of defence, but we felt that we needed to increase the resilience of our contingency plant to protect ourselves against prolonged power cuts. Powercall UK meets all our requirements as it guarantees we have a generator in situ and connected up with a target time of one hour and guaranteed maximum of three hours.’
