Trend controls are key to green operation of Marlowe Academy

Marlowe Academy

A host of green-engineering features in a new building for Marlowe Academy at Ramsgate is under the control of a Trend BMS designed and installed by Trend Partner company Total Control Services.

The Marlow Academy specialises in performing arts and business and has over a thousand pupils. Architect and consulting engineer Building Design Partnership created a building design to provide a superb environment for school users and a broad range of community activities.

The heating and cooling systems have comprehensive monitoring and control inputs and outputs. There are motorised windows with individual control and passive atrium ventilation. Every classroom has occupancy sensors and energy-management control to deliver heating only when it is occupied.

The system can be accessed by authorised users from any PC on the school’s network. Built-in Internet access could be used in the future to provide full remote monitoring.

The building has six motor-control panels, five packaged air-handling units fitted with Total Control MCCs by the manufacturer and 14 small Trend IQ3 controllers to provide local control and management of each space.

The system communicates via site-wide Ethernet to a Trend 963 web-enabled system supervisor that can deliver pages to a web browser on any PC on the network.
