Natural-ventilation controller qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances

This Passivent control system for natural ventilation now qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances.
Passivent’s Enhanced Digital Controller for its natural-ventilation system now qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances, so that all of its cost and associated installation work can be offset against tax in the first year — rather than at 25% a year on a reducing basis. This controller is designed for zonal applications and is fully programmable to meet the requirements of different applications, with separate control of several zones and a night-cooling strategy. There are sensors for internal and external temperatures, carbon dioxide, air quality and humidity. Wayne Aston, commercial technical manager with Passivent, explains, ‘Building Regulations are increasingly focusing on lower energy use as well as prevention of overheating within buildings. Low-energy natural ventilation has to be properly controlled to balance air movement, air quality, daytime heat build-up and night cooling — whilst allowing occupants to take control of their environment if they want to. ‘Our range of controls has been specifically developed to provide this, hence its eligibility for the ECA scheme. Currently, only control systems, not ventilation products, have achieved ECA accreditation.’ Passivent’s service for control systems includes selection advice, wiring diagrams, installation, commissioning, post-installation inspection at six months and on-site demonstration and training — all in accordance with CIBSE Guide C.
