New lamps for old fittings

The benefits of modern fluorescent tubes can be exploited without having to replace lighting fittings using Save It Easy components from ECSL. High-efficiency T5 and T8 lamps are not the same size as older and more efficiency lamps and when operated with high-frequency ballasts can reduce energy consumption by up to 56% while maintaining the same lighting levels. Save It Easy components convert existing luminaires to high-frequency operation and enable those converted fittings to accommodate the new lamps. These units plug into existing switchstart and quickstart luminaires. Installation involves sliding the ballast converter and end-cap adapter onto the ends of a T5 or T8 lamp and changing the luminaire starter to the inline fuse replacement provided. The old lamp is then removed and replaced. Such a conversion is said to offer efficiency gains from 26 to 45%. These components are said to have a life of 50 000 h and are approved for the Carbon Trust interest-free loan scheme. They have been tested and endorsed by lamp manufacturer General Electric.
