Carrier enjoys bull market for air-conditioning equipment

Bullring, Birmingham
Carrier air-conditioning equipment plays a key role in cooling the two main mall shopping areas in the redeveloped Bullring Shopping centre in Birmingham.
Over 5 MW of cooling for the two main open mall shopping areas in the redeveloped Bullring Shopping Centre in Birmingham is provided by 66 low-noise condensing units. Supplied by Carrier, they serve the air-handling units. These condensing units can meet stringent city-centre environmental noise and operating-efficiency requirements. The ability of Carrier to carry out factory thermal testing of the complete air-handling unit and condensing-unit system, at controlled design conditions, was an essential requirement of this project. The work was carried out at the company’s 7000 m2 facilities at its Montluel site in France, where there are 10 environmental chambers each capable of testing the thermal performance of chillers up to 3000 kW and 12 testing stations for a variety of equipment capabilities. Conditions can be controlled between -28°C and +68°C. 14 Carrier Fincoil dry coolers have also been installed on the roof of the Bullring to reject heat from nearly 150 shop units in the malls.
