Oventrop delivers effective dynamic balancing for hospital heating system
Effective dynamic balancing of the heating systems in the new Daventry Hospital is achieved using Oventrop TRVs and differential-pressure controllers.
The dynamic balancing of the heating system for the new Daventry Community Hospital is being achieved by Oventrop AV6 thermostatic radiator valves with Hydromat differential-pressure controllers. This hospital is a PFI by United Medical Enterprises Investments supported by Clugston Construction, which undertook the design and build. A variable-temperature heating system feeds radiator and radiant panel circuits on each floor. 90 radiators have presettable AV6 TRVs and lockshield valves. There are 150 radiant panels with AV6 TRVs modulated by wall-mounted temperature sensors in individual rooms. At various locations around the building Hydromat DP controllers are fitted to greatly improve the dynamic balance of the system. The Oventrop concept provides better balancing with fewer valves than using traditional commissioning sets. LPHW is generated by three dual-fuel boilers in the ground-floor plant room. Two boilers can meet the duty, with the third as standby. Each boiler delivers LPHW to a low-loss header and a primary-heating pump set. The header feeds further pump sets providing LPHW for constant- and variable-temperature heating systems, an HWS primary system and a variable-temperature underfloor heating system serving the entrance foyer, reception and waiting areas. Flow and return pipework is run in the ceiling voids of corridors and services risers. At each floor, the is an isolating valve, strainer and commissioning set in the flow and an differential-pressure set and isolating valve in the return. Capita Symonds designed the M&E system and M&E contractor Interserve chose Oventrop valves after a value-engineering exercise.
