Vaillant helps give solar hot water a brighter future
Over a hundred heating engineers have qualified for the BPEC certificate in solar domestic hot water by participating in Vaillant’s training programme. This certificate gives candidates automatic entry to the Government’s Clear Skies Scheme, which is now part of the Low Carbon Building Programme managed by Energy Savings Trust. The scheme gives householders access to grant funding for fitting solar heating. Vaillant training centres were approved in January and have been oversubscribed for solar-DHW training ever since. The company claims to be the only manufacturer of solar-DHW equipment certified to provide BEPC solar training. The 3-day course is aimed at candidates with experience or a formal qualification in plumbing and heating. It enables candidates to select, install and commission the most appropriate system and then maintain it. Colin Hilliard, Vaillant’s training manager in the UK, says, ‘We firmly believe that the “traditional” domestic-heating installer has the necessary skills to deliver these systems to the market, so we will endeavour to offer the training to as many suitable candidates as we can.’
