Trox guarantees performance of fan-coil units at Unilever House

Unilever House
Trox has supplied over 600 fan-coil units and a range of grilles and diffusers for the refurbishment of Unilever House in London in a £600 000 contract. To ensure the performance of the system, a series of tests was carried out in the Trox laboratories at Thetford. The tests also enabled the company to determine which slot diffusers would provide the best air distribution and thermal uniformity and the effect of different fan-coil units and air-distribution systems on noise in the occupied spaces. From this detailed testing, the Trox Design Bureau could offer a triple guarantee covering noise, levels, air distribution and thermal output. Much of the equipment is prefabricated, including the fitting of modular wiring T pieces with the power and controls wiring, the supply and fitting of fan-enable relays, controllers etc. Trox has a long-standing relationship with developer Stanhope. Nick Howard, key account manager with Trox, explains. ‘We as a supplier are taken on as part of the team early in the design process. This partnering approach gives people time to talk, get to know one another, schedule the project and produce mock-ups. It means we can look at all aspects of the project so there are no surprises and, more importantly, no mistakes. It is an ideal way of working.’ Unilever House is a Grade 2 listed building in central London. Eight floors of the 38 000 m2 building are being redeveloped behind the retained facade. The air-conditioning and ductwork contractor was Gardner & Co. of Kent.
