Hotel check-in activates room services for guests
Published:  01 July, 2004

The refurbished Great Western Hotel at Paddington Station in London now has bedroom heating and air conditioing activated as the guest checks in.

Integrated Control Systems installed a building-management system linked to a computerised front-of-house reservation system to introduce heating or cooling to a bedroom as soon as a guest has completed the paperwork at the reception desk.

The design of the interface between the two systems formed part of a £375 000 contract awarded to Integrated Control Systems by Kvaerner Rashleigh Weatherfoil, contractor for the mechanical-services element of the refurbishment. Consultants were TML.

The ICS system monitors and controls 400 fan-coil units in bedrooms across six blocks, 19 air-handling units, boilers, chillers, lifts, generators and public-health equipment. ICS designed a built 10 Form 4 motor-control panels.
