Multi V 5 - Ultimate Comfort

LG, Multi V5, VRF

During the concept of LG’s latest VRF solution, Multi V 5, efficiency was only a part of its concept consideration. Ultimate Comfort is a driving force behind Multi V 5’s application to the market in recognition of the 3 main areas of user concern.

The drafts suffered by equipment users are one of the most common complaints against localised air-conditioning such as VRF systems. With Comfort in mind, Multi V 5 offers protection against drafts by actively 1) monitoring the desired room set point, 2) the actual room temperature and 3) the room’s relative humidity, allowing a complete localised operating parameter to be implemented.

The total load within a room can now be judged instead of just a temperature monitored sensible load because of the built in local humidity monitoring allowing the potential for drafts to be reduced by locally adjusting the capacity of the fan coil to suit conditions. The end result, removing thermostat on / off cycling and allowing supply air temperatures to remain to that of the room set point providing the ultimate comfort to the user.

Any total loss in heating output during traditional defrosting or oil return came at the expense of the end user, enduring periods of time without heating. Partial defrosting enables one half of the outdoor units heat exchanger to be defrosted while the other still provides heating capacity, but coupled with LG’s new Dual Sensing operation, monitoring both temperature and humidity, dew point can be accurately monitored, regulating evaporator temperatures to delay the onset of frosting and increasing the relative ratio of heating operation by up to 11% per day reducing power input by 7% by regulating to latent conditions

By including actual oil sensors in the sump of each compressor and a process whereby oil balancing between compressors during operation can be achieved, further loss in heating capacity can be mitigated by providing reactive oil returns rather than traditional unnecessary timed oil returns, with internal testing showing no oil return for 200 days which in real life terms would contribute to the gains above but also provide an active method of compressor protection and increased reliability.

Outdoor unit noise levels are critical when location planning, with reduced noise levels required at certain times, the ability to stipulate when and how long without the need for extra ancillaries is now possible. Using a simple scheduling function built into the controller, a pre selectable reduced noise level can be activated and deactivated on demand, moving away from the traditional highest load / period of time calculation

By diversifying the focus of LG’s unique Multi V 5 VRF technologies to incorporate end user considerations it is clearly evident that a different dimension in the process of system design is becoming apparent.
