Theatre staff get in on Trend BEMS act

Trend, BMS, BEMS

Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch, east London, has added a Trend IQView8 touchscreen to its Trend BEMS to enable the system to be monitored in real time and adjustments made to energy use as and when necessary. Terry Abbot, head of facilities at the theatre, explains that he was previously unable to see what the BEMS was doing and relied upon Trend’s engineers to make adjustments when they visited the site for maintenance and service work.

He adds, ‘IQView8 has put me in control too, which is fantastic. I am able to review time schedules, make adjustments to setpoints and use plant in the most efficient way possible.

‘This will save energy and money, enhance comfort conditions and extend the lifetime of the plant. I wish I’d done it much sooner!’

This modern 500-seat theatre has benefitted from a Trend BEMS for a number of years. The site has three boilers, two AHUs and two additional boilers dedicated to the radiator heating circuit. All this plant is linked to the BEMS.

The IQView software presents the users with a Windows operating environment with visual access to all the controllers and devices on the site, enabling authorised personnel to view and adjust operating times, monitor alarms and make adjustments to controller parameters.

The IQView for this theatre has six pages — a home page, two pages for the AHUs, a page for all the time schedules, a page for the bar and one for the office area. Each page includes all relevant information for the operation of plant, temperatures, sensor readings, setpoints and over-ride switches.
