Daikin adds VRV IV to R22 replacement

Daikin Europe’s VRV-Q heat-pump replacement system for installations using R22 and the water-cooled VRV-W series for taller buildings and geothermal applications now incorporate the latest VRV IV innovations to improve energy efficiency by more than 70%.

The key features of VRV IV included variable refrigerant temperature, continuous heating during defrost and VRV Configurator for simplified commissioning and servicing.

From the end of 2014, R22 (even reclaimed) will no longer be available for maintaining and servicing systems, so the pressure is on to replace them.

The VRV IV-Q series potentially allows controllers and indoor units installed since 1996 to be retained — with only outdoor units and heat-recovery branch-electro boxes having to be replaced. R22 pipework can generally be retained. Cost savings of up to 50% can be achieved compared to replacing an entire system.
