Kalwall lights up offices

Kalwall, daylight, renewable energy
Thermally efficient daylight — the Kalwall system on an office building in Leicester.

The Kalwall daylighting system has been used to good effect in the headquarters of a large office stationery supplier in Leicester. Nearly 1800 m2 of this translucent cladding was used as a wrap-around for the 3-storey building.

The Kalwall system was specified for its ability to diffuse daylight and distribute it evenly and deeply across the interior. Unlike conventional glazing, the system eliminates shadows and glare and the stark contrasts of light and shade without any need for solar control. Even on cloudy days, the interior is flooded with daylight, which means less artificial lighting and also, because it is highly insulating, energy costs are reduced.

U-values from 1.25 to 0.28 W/m2K are possible.
