Knauf Insulation wraps up huge energy savings with Remeha replacement boiler installation

New boilers from Remeha have led to gas consumption falling by 67% for the offices on this site of Knauf Insulation.

A 67% reduction in gas consumption for Knauf Insulation’s offices in Cwmbran, Wales, has followed the installation of Remeha’s ‘super-condensing’ Quinta Eco Plus heating systems to replace aging boilers. Controls were also improved. The actual savings exceed the estimated reduction of up to 40%. Financial savings are £9690 a year.

Year-on-year gas consumption fell from 575 MWh to 187 MWh following the installation of two Quinta Eco Plus 115 passive-flue-gas heat-recovery heating systems. There is also a corresponding reduction in carbon emissions of 74 t a year.

These huge savings were achieved over a year that included mean winter temperature 0.4 K below the average for 1971 to 2000. March 2013 was the coldest March since 2012, with a mean temperature 3.3 K below the average.

The Quinta Eco Plus was recommended to project managers MII Engineering by Knauf Insulation as part of a wider commitment to improve sustainability.

Oleksandr Prykhodko, plant manager at Knauf Insulation’s Cwmbran facility, commented, ‘Minimising our environmental impact is central focus of our sustainability strategy, and reducing energy use is a key aspect of this. The Quinta Eco Plus system has certain helped us achieve that, and we’re really pleased with the results.’

The Quinta Eco Plus maximises condensing efficiency in all systems regardless of flow and return temperatures and uses the reclaimed energy for space heating or pre-heating domestic hot water.
