Boilers maximise their condensing operation at Taunton Academy

Remeha, condensing boiler, space heating, passive flue gas heat recovery
Condensing boilers with high flow/return temperatures in this new school building are achieved with the help of passive flue-gas heat recovery.

Passive flue-gas heat recovery is the key to energy-efficient heating for an £11 million extension at Taunton Academy in Somerset provided by Remeha Commercial’s super-condensing Quinta Eco Plus system. This system comprises the Quinta Pro modulating commercial condensing boiler and the Eco Plus passive flue-gas heat-recovery device that recovers up to 15% of the gross input, which would other pass up the flue.

Maximum condensing is achieved at full output at all times to achieve seasonal efficiencies of up to 107% NCV at flow/return temperatures of 82/71°C.

The new 3-storey building houses changing for internal and external sports, central information communication technology hub, open-plan learning space, and a design-and-technology zone that includes a pro-kitchen teaching area. The second floor is dedicated to music, art and performing arts.

Simon Luff of FP Hurley & Sons specified the heating equipment. It includes a Quinta Eco Plus 115 kW system as the lead boiler with a high-efficiency Quinta Pro 115 kW boiler as back up for best payback.
