Ricoh Stadium scores with energy-management system
During the first year of an eSight energy-management and monitoring system being installed in the Ricoh Arena at Coventry, electricity consumption was reduced by 15%, gas by 6% and water by 13%. These savings were achieved through targeted investment in new technologies such as replacing boilers and controls and procuring energy more cost effectively. The installation of has also helped the Ricoh prepare for the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.
Immediately after the system was installed the site’s energy consumption was monitored to accurately assess opportunities for saving energy. An energy policy was formulated and a energy-management team trained to undertake reporting and targeting responsibilities.
Using eSight, the arena was soon able to identify and target areas requiring attention such as lighting and air conditioning, which accounted for 73% of total energy use. When more efficient equipment has been installed, energy savings could be assed and return on investment calculated.
The energy-management team could also identify and rectify anomalies in usage and reduce energy loads in specific areas.
The eZdash interactive touchscreen energy dashboard has recently been installed in the arena foyer opposite the main reception to provide up-to-date energy-saving information to visitors, alongside news, weather and travel feeds.
