Potterton and Andrews replace declining plant at children’s hospice
The refurbished heating system of Acorns Children’s Hospice comprises two Potterton Commercial Paramount Two 60 kW wall-hung condensing boilers and two Andrews Hi-Flo water heaters. They were installed by Integral UK, which designed the new system to replace the existing boiler/calorifier system which, although still operational, had become inefficient and problematic.
The new centralised system uses condensing boilers for heating and gas-fired storage water heaters for domestic hot water. It was selected to reduce energy costs and carbon footprint. The boilers serve a radiator system.
To provide a seamless changeover from the old system to the new one, Integral installed the new plant in the adjacent gardener’s room. Although only a third of the area of the existing plant room, the compact dimensions of the wall-hung boilers and small footprint of the water heaters were easily accommodated.
The new installation separates heating from hot water and gives 100% backup on both services.
The boiler’s ISR control panel is user friendly. It has a full text display of operational status and fault diagnostics, inbuilt weather compensation, summer/winter changeover and time-control facilities. The controls are compatible with the simplest of room thermostats or full BEMS integration.
