The replacement of 15-year-old boilers from MHS Boilers with new condensing boilers from the same company is expected to reduce heating costs in this hotel by 15 to 20%.

Replacing boilers in the luxury 60-bed Cooden Beach Hotel in Bexhill is expected to achieve energy savings of 15 to 20%.

Three MHS Ultramax PB condensing boilers have replaced long-serving MHS Regency GBS atmospheric boilers over 15 years old.

The problem of changing from an open-vented to a pressurised system was overcome using plate heat exchangers.

System designer Dave Callcott of MHS Boilers explains, ‘By installing the plate heat exchangers with the new boilers, the problem of the two types of system was overcome.

‘The new boilers were fitted in an adjacent store room while the original boilers were still running. A concentric room-sealed system facilitated this type of operation. The MHS control package ensures that the boiler output matches system requirements and enhances the boiler seasonal efficiency of 95%.’

The boilers were installed by Mechanical & Plumbing Services of St Leonards-on-Sea.
