Transport for London scoops two awards

Published:  10 March, 2009

Transport for London took CIBSE’s low-carbon awards to heart, becoming a finalist in four categories and winning two of them.

The successes were champion of carbon-saving champions for developing a network of environmental champions in its head office buildings and the award for low-carbon energy assessor: display energy certificate of the year.

Andy Stanton, head of sustainable buildings at Transport for London, says, ‘These awards are fantastic recognition of the strides that TfL of has made in ensuring that our head-office buildings are as energy efficient as possible, in line with the Mayor of London’s target of a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025.

In establishing a network of over 200 head-office environmental champions, we have been able to demonstrate that small changes from everyone, alongside strong energy management, can have a significant outcome in reducing our environmental impact.

‘Similarly, we have used Display Energy Certificates to demonstrate innovative ways to save energy that are tailored to the specific space. For example, reducing the voltage on one head-office building[using PowerPerfector] has cut electricity consumption by8%.’ TfL plans to use the technology at eight more sites.
