Senior Hargreaves completes work for major development on Liverpool’s waterfront

Senior Hargreaves has completed the installation of heating and ventilation ductwork for the new Echo Arena and BT conference and exhibition complex on Liverpool’s waterfront. The project was handed over in phases, with completion in April. The complex combines a 10 000-seat multi-purpose arena for concerts and sports, a 1350-seat auditorium and an exhibition space of 7000 m2. The two wings of the development are linked by a central galleria that provides access to all facilities and a pedestrian route to the riverside. Flexibility for different events and levels of occupancy is a key element in the building services, designed by consultants Faber Maunsell. This flexibility is also a key component of the energy-conservation strategy that matches rate of airflow, heating or cooling to the occupancy. Wayne Bunnell, Hargreave’s project manager, says, ‘This has been an extremely challenging project. Most of the ductwork is in the roof space, a complex structure where other services are also vying for space.’
