Ellen MacArthur launches CIBSE’s 100 days campaign

Dame Ellen MacArthur, the record-breaking round-the-world yachtswoman, launched CIBSE’s 100 days of carbon clean-up campaign at the Energy Event last month. She has become a champion of the campaign, thanks to her on-going partnership with the campaign sponsors E.ON, represented in the picture by Tim Pyke (right), head of climate change at E.ON.

Ellen MacArthur said, ‘The 100 days of carbon off campaign is an initiative I am very excited to be involved with. I see it as a significant step towards encouraging businesses to start taking action to improve their energy efficiency.’

Run by the Chartered Institution of Building Services, the campaign aims to help participants to realise the carbon-saving potential of their workplace, encouraging staff behavioural changes and managerial initiative to reduce carbon emissions from their buildings.

The cups of tea and toast highlight that switching off a monitor at night can save as much energy as it takes to toast 20 slices of bread and that leaving the lights on in an empty meeting room overnight can waste enough energy to make 250 cups of tea.
