As part of the refurbishment of the BBC in Londonís West End, Trox has supplied chilled beams in a £300 000 contract.

The refurbishment of the BBC West One offices and editing studios at Langham Place in central London includes a £300 000 order for Trox to supply chilled beams. The company also supplied a wide range of grilles and diffusers.

The exposed passive chilled beams, incorporating a primary air supply, comprise 424 exposed TCB-Air units with 100 mm-diameter and face grille, fitting of free-issue control valves, co-ordinated with the sprinklers. The beams are installed on eight floors and were supplied in various lengths to suit the building shape.

Each beam is unique, with 15 potential option variations. Lengths vary from 1 to 6.1 m. Due to site restraints, the maximum length of any beam section was 3.3 m. They are finished in white with a 20% gloss.

Trox Design Bureau developed the beam with the professional team: building-services consultant Faber Maunsell; M&E contractor Axima; main contractor Bovis and MacCormac Jamieson Pritchard Architects.
