Elco boilers installed at National Graphene Institute

Published:  01 July, 2015

Elco, graphene, boiler, space heating

Elco UK has supplied three R600 gas-fired floor-standing boilers for the new National Graphene Institute (NGI) at the University of Manchester. This £61 million 7800 m2 building was opened recently by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and provides facilities for research into graphene.

The institute is part of a wider £90 million Government investment in graphene, which was first isolated at the university in 2004.

The boilers will provide space heating and hot water. Their efficiency of over 91% is partly due to a water-cooled down-firing premix burner system and a stainless-steel heat exchanger.
