The new headquarters of Renewable Solutions also demonstrates a wide range of renewable technologies.

Renewable Solutions has incorporated a range of renewable-energy systems into its new purpose-developed 900 m2 headquarters building in the Wirral. It is rated BREEAM ‘Excellent’ for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation. Technologies incorporated include a solar PV array, solar thermal water heating, biomass heating, heat-recovery units and the company’s own GridBattery battery storage technology.

The building has been designed to maximise the use of natural light its glass facades and glass partitions. LED light sources provide artificial lighting.

There is an underfloor heating system, and the whole building is highly insulated.

Effective metering systems enable visitors to see how different technologies work alongside one another and how their performance changes according to the conditions.

Managing director Mike Lowes explains, ‘This is the result of 10 months of design-and-build work. Having spent the last four years in rented property, we were keen to invest in a new freehold site which we could design to the highest specification. Now that the building is complete, it is giving us the perfect platform for demonstrating a whole raft of sustainable technologies to our domestic and commercial clients.’

The company is registered under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and can offer clients a variety of Government-backed tariff incentives. Renewable Solutions is one of only a few companies to be accredited for every principal renewable technology under the MCS.
